Kok Cheong was one of the pioneer batch of Public Service Commission (PSC) nursing scholars who went to pursue his degree in Nursing in University of Surrey, UK, in 1988. He graduated with Bachelor of Science with Honours in Nursing Studies in 1992 and returned to Singapore to serve his bond with Ministry of Health (MOH).
Over the last 24 years in healthcare, Kok Cheong had the opportunity to work in both public and private sectors, with experience gained in healthcare administration, business development, policy-making, operation management and quality management. Besides obtaining his MBA in 2012, he is also a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) – an international accreditation awarded by the National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ), US, since 2009. Armed with this accreditation, he has been proactive in recommending and driving change to improve nursing quality and patient safety at the institution levels.
Kok Cheong is currently the Deputy Director of Nursing in Changi General Hospital (CGH) and oversees the Nursing Quality and Risk Management, as well as Nursing Informatics. In addition to his present role as Chairman of the Fall Safety Steering Committee in CGH, he was also recently appointed by MOH as Chairman of the National Fall Prevention Committee to analyse and strategize national initiatives to reduce patient falls.
He has also been an active member of the Healthcare Quality Society of Singapore (HQSS) since 2009 and contributed as a trainer-cum-facilitator to conduct healthcare quality training for both local and overseas organizations. Kok Cheong has lectured as a guest lecturer in Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies (ALCNS) on Quality Management and Risk Management.
